POKOTABI / Umemaru
梅丸
Just a short walk from Kitami Station, the izakaya Umemaru pairs Kansai-style oden with a wide variety of small dishes and local sake by the pour in a relaxed, comfortable setting.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Located near Kitami Station, Umemaru is an izakaya where guests can settle in for the evening in a homey, relaxed atmosphere. The lack of a mandatory table appetizer (otoshi) makes for an easy, unfussy start, allowing diners to begin immediately with Kansai-style dashi oden or whatever small dishes catch the eye.
The menu ranges from classic bites such as potato salad, braised burdock root (kinpira gobo), and stir-fried chicken gizzards to salt-grilled chicken wings and natto omelets—all well matched to drinks. Along with draft beer, the bar offers several varieties of local sake, available by the 1-go measure or in 4-go bottles, as well as shochu by the glass or bottle to suit any drinking pace. For a more substantial finish, ordering onigiri rice balls or warm noodles is a satisfying way to round out the meal.
The dining room includes table service, and advance reservations are accepted. Payment is cash only, so it is best to have yen on hand before stopping by.
